Our Goal
The name "Intermesh" stands for collaborative networking structures, that initiate the exchange of art, culture, ideas and knowledge as well as questions. Metaphorically speaking we think of a ball of wool, that stands for interweaving transcontinental innovative networks and collaborative working structures.
We are (former) students of the University of Cologne and have experienced the subject of art through different approaches. While we are active creators, we choose differing ways to express ourselves. Our work ranges from drawings, paintings and digital media to sculptures and installations representing our individuality and our various approaches. The respective media thrive through transformation and ongoing processes of thought.
Inspired by John Dewey's philosophical arguments about art as an important educational tool for a real democracy, the collective wants to grow globally and create new spaces for exhibition, which are accessible to people from every cultural and socio-economical background. Therefore we see ourselves as artists and educators, whose goal is spreading art outside of elite art spaces (such as museums and galleries).
Art is a catalyst of democracy. It encourages myriad forms of expression, interpretation and thought: a system as well as a source of personal reflection and transformation.
The collective aims to reach all people who are interested in participating in communicative and cooperative projects that reflect issues of modern life. We encourage the audience to challenge and criticize us and our art. The aim is to pose questions regarding oneself and the environment, to provide inspiration and enable new processes of reflecting upon and making art.

Der Name "Intermesh" steht für kollaborative Netzwerkstrukturen, die den Austausch von Kunst, Kultur, Ideen und Wissen sowie Fragestellungen initiieren. Metaphorisch gesprochen denken wir an ein Wollknäuel, das für transkontinental innovative Geflechte, Verflechtungen und kollaborative Arbeitsstrukturen steht.
Wir sind (ehemalige) Studierende der Universität zu Köln und haben das Fach Kunst durch unterschiedliche Ansätze erlebt. Während wir aktive Schöpfer*innen sind, wählen wir differenzierte Wege, um uns auszudrücken.
Unsere Arbeiten reichen von Zeichnungen, Malerei, Photographie, Videos und digitalen Medien bis hin zu Skulpturen sowie Installationen, was unsere Individualität und vielfältige Denkweise repräsentiert. Das jeweilige Medium lebt von Transformation und fortwährenden Denkprozessen.
Inspiriert von John Deweys philosophischen Argumenten über Kunst als wichtiges Bildungsinstrument für eine reelle Demokratie, will das Kollektiv digital global wachsen und neue, für jede soziale Klasse sowie für jede kulturelle Herkunft zugängliche Ausstellungsräume schaffen. Daher verstehen wir uns als Künstler*innen bzw. Pädagog*innen, deren Ziel die Verbreitung von Kunst außerhalb der elitären Kunsträume (wie z.B. Museen und Galerien) darstellt.
Kunst ist ein Katalysator der Demokratie. Diese ermutigt zu unzähligen Ausdrucksformen, Interpretationen und Denkweisen: Ein System sowie eine Quelle für persönliche Reflexion und Transformation.
Das Kollektiv richtet sich an alle Menschen, die Interesse daran haben, an kommunikativen sowie kooperativen Projekten teilzunehmen und die Themen des modernen Lebens zu reflektieren. Wir regen das Publikum an, uns und unsere Kunst einerseits herauszufordern und andererseits zu kritisieren. Es sollen Fragen an das eigene Selbst sowie die Umwelt gestellt werden, Inspiration gegeben und neue Prozesse des Kunstschaffens bzw. -denkens ermöglicht werden.
